Humble Beginnings
FROM SMALL TOWN TO GOLDEN TRIANGLE
Hakka Restaurant was founded in 1956 by our grandparents, Lee Siew Chin and the late Chong Ngam Sen in the small town of Ipoh. Borne from a passion for traditional Hakka cuisine, they wanted to share their love of cooking with the rest of their community.
As time passed, their following grew, and they eventually moved Hakka Restaurant down to Kuala Lumpur. We’ve since moved from B.B. Park (now Sungai Wang Plaza), to Chin Woo Stadium (where we rose to fame), to Jalan Bukit Bintang, and finally, to our current location in Jalan Raja Chulan.
Hakka Restaurant remains as a family-run operation even today. We continue to honor our grandparents’ legacy in everything we do, from the traditional cast iron woks we use to the suppliers who have been with us from the beginning.
Unchanging Values
FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION
Our grandparents never allowed fame to get to their heads. Even as Hakka Restaurant gained popularity, they insisted on serving only the best. They never cut corners, inflated prices or compromised on quality. This remains true until today.
We want to say thank you to everyone who have walked this journey with us over the years: our customers, who have remained loyal no matter how many times we moved; our dedicated staff and suppliers, who have remained loyal to us from day one; and our current landlord, for leasing us one of the best locations in downtown KL.
60 years later, we remain committed to our vision of “Everyone Is Entitled To A Decent Meal”. We’d love for you to join us for one.
